Guitars in my life
I started playing guitar in 1964. I celebrate the actual date as March 15th.
My father played some guitar though he was primarily a piano player. So music was always around
in our house.
I think I was particularly inspired to take up the guitar at that time for two reasons. One, I had a
friend who played in a local band, and it was cool to see him on stage. But even more important, that
was the time the Beatles hit the USA. What teenage boy was NOT inspired to take up music.
I bought a book or two - probably Mel Bay - but mainly I just tried to play along with records. Some early
influences were the Ventures, Chet Atkins, and others. I also played along with non-guitarists such as
pianist Floyd Cramer and singer/songwriter Roy Orbison.
In this section of the site I want to describe the guitars in my modest collection (and maybe some other stuff
as well). Go to
"My Collection" to view the list.
You may also go to
"Articles" to see a list of some of my favorite recorded guitar tracks.
