But, as happens, my interests changed, primarily to music and playing the guitar. The cards were no longer so important, and, in one of the major mistakes of my life, I threw them all away. I know, it's traditional to say "Mom threw them out", but my mother actually tried to talk me out of it. I have no one to blame but myself.
Fast forward to 1998, some thirty-five or so years later. I was at the shopping center at which coincidentally a sportscard show was going on. Just browsing by the tables I saw many of those same cards which I had owned way back when. It was exactly like seeing old friends again! I remembered the pictures on the fronts and the cartoons and stats on the backs. The thought of those cards resonated somehow in my mind, and I began to collect again - this time seriously.
That was twelve years ago as I write this. I'm still collecting. For a long time I collected only baseball cards. Then three or four years ago I started buying football cards as well. I also began setting up as a dealer at the local card show at the mall.
Card collecting is a hobby for all ages. At the show I've seen fathers (and mothers) and sons (and daughters), men, women, old and young. It's a hobby I hope to grow old with - okay, older!
This portion of my web site is devoted to card collecting. There are pages talking about my personal collection, some personal musings on related topics ( articles), and cards I'm offering for sale. Please enjoy and let me know what you think.
I'll mention here that a group of four of us started a sports collectibes show at a local mall in January 2012. As of today it's still going on. Somewhere along the way I started sending out a monthly newsletter. I've kept copies since 2014 which you can view here.
