This ad for Chesterfield cigarettes is from the Sporting News edition of August 19th, 1953. This was only Eddie's second year in the big leagues, which indicates how his popularity had already grown.

How the times have changed! No sports star today (in his right mind) would even consider such an endorsement!

By the way, Eddie later claimed that he did not smoke.


This photo appears to have been taken in spring training sometime in the 1950's. The picture has been used on a lot of Eddie's baseball cards.


Based on the sideburns, I think this photo was taken in his managerial days (1973-74).
