Our cat Freddy

Fred and his sister Callie were rescued by our friend Martha. They came to us in October 1997 (shortly after Ray died). They were both still a little feral and tended to hide from us at first, but they quickly got over that.

Callie always remained small, but Fred quickly grew. During the first month he was with us he went from three pounds to four and a half pounds, and he continued growing to become the biggest cat we've ever had.

Fred was pretty much a goof. He was clumsy. And in spite of his size, he was always a big "fraidy cat" and easily startled.

But he was loveable, and he was my special friend. Even when he was little he was close to me, as you can see in the picture below. All his life he would sit with me and look at me with his big eyes that just radiated love. Anyone who thinks that cats have no feelings for anybody has never seen that look.

As with Bert, Freddy developed cancer which we fought as best we could. But we couldn't beat it. We lost Freddy on November 15, 2009. He was twelve years old.
