Milwaukee Braves Sample Pictures
More selected pictures from my Braves scrapbook.
Johnny Logan was a shortstop for the Braves from 1951-1961, first in Boston then in Milwaukee. He finished
his career in 1961-63 with Pittsburgh. He was a four-time NL All-Star. He is still active, I believe, as
President of the Milwaukee Braves Historical Association.
Update: Johnny passed away this year (2013) on August 10th at the age of 86.
Del Crandall was one of the top catchers in his years with the Braves. He played for the Braves from 1949
to 1963, first in Boston then in Milwaukee. He spent the years 1951 and 1952 in military. His playing
career ended in 1966. Del was never a major offensive threat, but he was an eight-time NL All-Star and
won four Gold Gloves. He later managed in the big leagues.
Hall-of-Famer Warren Spahn is perhaps the greatest left-handed pitcher of all time. He won 363 games in
his twenty-one year career, more than any other lefthander and more than any other pitcher who played
his entire career after 1920. Incredibly, this was accomplished with three years of playing time lost
due to his service in World War II. Another amazing stat: he won twenty or more games every year from
1956 through 1963, except for eighteen in 1962, and that when he was 35 to 43 years old. During that
span he had no fewer than eighteen complete games every year. From 1947 through 1963 he never had
fewer than 245 innings pitched.
