Fender Mustang
This was the first guitar I ever bought, and my first "real" guitar. I bought it in September 1966 for a grand total of $222.36, including a nice hard case and sales tax.

I was the happiest guy around! I was so proud of this guitar. And I still have it and always will.

According to the serial number it was made in the Fullerton, CA plant in the Fender-CBS era in 1966. For more information on the history of the Mustang, click here. One of the pics below is a partial page of am April 1965 Fender price list.

It is the 24" scale, smaller than Strats and Teles, I guess, but not the real junior 22 1/2" scale. It's been modified. I removed the vibrato bar and blocked the bridge since I never used it. Also the slide pickup selector switches were generally worn out, so I replaced them with the toggle selector. I lost the ability to put the pickups out of phase, but I never really liked that sound anyway.

The action is set a little high because I use it more for slide.

My Mustang todayMy Mustang as it looks today. It's a little banged up, but it's still completely playable and still sounds great!
