Ovation Electric Classic

I bought this guitar at the Fret Mill Music store here in Roanoke. I'm not sure exactly when, but it was probably 1982 or 1983.

The model 1616 was made from 1976 to either 1984 or 1990, depending on who you're talking to. According to the serial number (235464) mine was made in 1981. It is an accoustic/electric classic (nylon string) guitar with built-in pickup and volume/tone controls. The pickup is split so that if played through the stereo jack the sound of strings 1-3-5 will go to one output, and the other three will go to a different output, thereby giving some illusion of stereo. It also has a mono output jack.

As you can tell from the pictures it needs strings, since I don't play it much. It also has some scratches and dings which don't affect playability, but it has some bracing problems internally.

I have never been real comfortable with the round back which was typical of Ovations. I couldn't seem to keep it from slip-sliding away from me. But it has a very nice amplified sound and is otherwise very easy to play.
